The system includes a waterproof pendant, a mobile unit the size of a cellphone and a base station to be plugged into phone and power outlets.

Once the user presses the emergency button on any of the three devices, an operator at the monitoring station in California or Michigan will establish communication via the mobile unit or the base station.

Once contact is made and the situation is assessed, the operator will contact EMS or the appropriate help.

“Sometimes clients call up and they say, ‘I just fell down, but I don’t want an ambulance coming. Can you call my neighbor, or my sister or my son or daughter to come over?’ and so we’ll do that for them,” Janetis said.

“It’s rapid access to medical care, anywhere in the country, by the simple press of a button, but unlike 911, we know who you are, we have your medical profile.”

Janetis, a Pennsylvania native, said he worked for traditional alert companies, but when callers inquired about how far outside their homes the system would work, he thought of the mobile concept.

Does anyone know anything about medical alert systems?

My mother is elderly and insists on still being alone, I have convinced her to get a medical alert system in her home. I have looked on the internet to research them, but can't seem to see the difference in the different ones.

They are similar. The companies may be out of state, but I don't think that is a problem. They set up the system in the house so that the speaker can pick you up where ever you are in the house. They have a rope/necklace version and a wrist version.

I have known I have type 1 diabetes for a year, and my doctor didn't make the medical alert sound like an important option.
Call me crazy, but I think it might be important to have access to emergency care in, say, a situation when my life is

What are some good personal medical alert systems?

I'm looking into getting a system for my aging parents who have health problems and are living alone. I would appreciate feedback from anybody with any experience, negative or positive, with any of these systems. Thanks!
