U-Systems Receives FDA PMA Approvable Letter for somo*v Automated Breast ...

SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 14, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- U-Systems, the leader in automated breast ultrasound, announced today it has received a PMA approvable letter from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) for the company's somo*v(R) Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS) system. The somo*v ABUS system is the first ultrasound device to receive an approval recommendation from a FDA Advisory Panel and an approvable letter for breast cancer screening as an adjunct to mammography for asymptomatic women with dense breast tissue.

"The breast imaging community has known for some time that mammography does not work equally well in everyone, particularly the 40% of women in the United States who have dense breast tissue," said Ron Ho, President and CEO of U-Systems. I am planning on going to a vocational school for diagnostic ultrasound sonography, but a few people have said that it is hard for me, as a male, to find a career in this field. How true is that?

Out of the 4 Sonographers I'm working with at the hospital for my clinicals, 1 of them is a male. Both of my DMS teachers at school are males. So no, being male in this profession doesn't necessarily make it more difficult to find a job. There are some

What is a diagnostic ultrasound?? Can I get one at 7 weeks pregnant?

My doctor won't do one until I'm 20 weeks pregnant so I really want one and am getting one through an ultrasound company. It will be a diagnostic ultrasound. What does that mean?

I am wondering if I should get it now or in a week or so.

An ultrasound is a type of diagnostic equipment. Meaning it can be used to see and diagnose problems. I have a better idea though:

Get a different doctor. 20 weeks is a long time to wait. I am 7 weeks and my doctor did my first one
